Kathryn Haun is the Founder and CEO of Haun Ventures. Prior to this role, she was a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) where she co-led the firm’s three crypto funds. She joined Andreessen Horowitz in June 2018 as its eleventh general partner and the first female general partner. Haun also served on the board of directors of Coinbase from 2017 to 2024. She joined Coinbase as the company’s first independent board member, a position she held through the company’s milestone of becoming the first publicly-traded crypto company. Before her time at a16z and Coinbase, Haun spent ten years as a federal prosecutor focusing on fraud, cyber, and corporate crime in collaboration with agencies such as the SEC, FBI, and Treasury.
During her tenure with the U.S. Department of Justice, Haun prosecuted a wide array of cases, including RICO murders, organized crime, public corruption, gangs, and money laundering. She held senior policy positions at the Justice Department’s headquarters in both the National Security Division and the Attorney General’s office, where her portfolio included antitrust, tax, and national security issues. In the private sector, Haun has testified before the U.S. Congress on the intersection of technology and regulation. She has delivered lectures at Stanford Business School on cryptocurrency and at Stanford Law School on cybercrime, drawing on her extensive experience with federal criminal law, particularly in cases involving transnational and organized crime syndicates, cybercrime, the deep web, and digital currency.
Haun clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and is an honors graduate of Stanford Law School, where she served as Managing Editor of the Stanford Law Review. She continues to contribute to the academic community as a Professor at both Stanford Law School and Stanford School of Business. Haun remains active in discussions on technology and regulation, having appeared in various media outlets such as Bloomberg, CNBC, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. She is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Board of Directors of Coinbase.
