Born in Bend, Oregon, Boswell turned professional after the 2012 season, which saw him place highly in several major domestic stage races.

Since joining Team Sky, Boswell along with American team-mate Joe Dombrowski relocated to Nice, Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France.

Spending his neo-pro season learning the ropes and adjusting to life in Europe, Ian Boswell is one of three Americans on the Team Sky roster for 2013.

Boswell arrives alongside Joe Dombrowski and represents the new wave of up and coming stage racers.

A pair of fifth places at the Tour of Utah and also at the Tour de l’Avenir - widely considered to be a leading gauge of under-23 talent – showed Boswell to be among the best young all-rounders in the sport.
