Kaya Henderson      

Educator, Activist & CEO of Reconstruction; Co-Host of "Pod Save the People"; Former Chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools

Kaya Henderson made a significant impact in the field of education during her tenure as Chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools from November 2010 to September 2016. Prior to that, she served as the Executive Director of Teach for America from 1997 to 2000 and later as the Vice President for Strategic Operations of the New Teacher Project from 2000 to 2007. Her leadership in these roles culminated in various improvements during her time as Chancellor, including consecutive years of enrollment growth, increased graduation rates, improved student satisfaction and teacher retention, and increased AP participation and pass rates.

After her resignation as Chancellor in 2016, Henderson continued to contribute to the educational sector. In October 2017, she was appointed a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Georgetown University, where she also serves as a member of the board of directors. Henderson's commitment to education extends beyond traditional institutions. She is currently the CEO of Reconstruction, a technology company delivering a K-12 supplemental curriculum that focuses on the representation of Black people, culture, and contributions.

Adding to her repertoire, Henderson co-hosts "Pod Save the People" and leads Kaya Henderson Consulting. She is also the co-founder of Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC). She has board memberships with The Aspen Institute, Curriculum Associates, Robin Hood NYC, and Teach For America. Henderson began her career as a middle school Spanish teacher in the South Bronx through Teach For America after graduating from Mt. Vernon Public Schools and receiving her Bachelor's degree in International Relations and Master of Arts in Leadership from Georgetown University. In recognition of her notable contributions, Georgetown University and Trinity University have conferred upon her honorary doctoral degrees.
