Kayla Tausche
Anchor and Senior White House Correspondent; Former Co-Anchor of CNBC's "Squawk Alley"
Kayla Tausche is an anchor and senior White House correspondent for CNBC reporting on the Biden administration, Cabinet agencies and elections. She is also a fill-in anchor for CNBC’s Business Day programming and previously served as a co-host for CNBC’s 2020 election night coverage and the dayside programming on Inauguration Day. As a correspondent, she contributed to the network’s 2016 election night coverage from Colorado and in 2012 from the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
Leveraging a deep network of political sources, her reporting provides essential, behind-the-scenes information on policy developments. During the Trump administration, she secured exclusive interviews with Vice President Mike Pence, Treasury Sec. Steven Mnuchin, chief of staff Mark Meadows and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, in addition to regularly interviewing foreign leaders and executives from the world’s largest companies. Tausche broke the news that exploratory conversations were being held by top officials to remove President Trump from office following the US Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021. She’s taken viewers behind closed doors in trade negotiations with Europe, Canada, Mexico and China and provided live reports around-the-clock from the G-20 in Osaka, Japan, the G-7 in Quebec City, and from Seoul and Beijing during President Trump’s official tour of Asia in 2017. From London, she also broke the news that global central banks were not intervening during a market rout following the 2016 Brexit vote.
Her long-form investigations into the White House’s flawed airport virus screening program and failure to deliver on an $84 billion economic pledge to the state of West Virginia were nominated for Emmy, Gracie, Polk, Livingston, and Loeb awards.
From 2014 to 2017, Tausche also co-hosted Squawk Alley, a show focusing on the intersection of Wall Street and Silicon Valley, from the New York Stock Exchange. In that role, she broke news on the initial public offerings of Facebook, Twitter, Alibaba and Snapchat. When she joined CNBC in 2011, she covered the banking industry and its evolution after the 2008 financial crisis.
Tausche began her career with posts at the Associated Press in Brussels and the Financial Times Group in London and New York. An Atlanta native, she graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she published academic work analyzing media coverage of the 1997 handover of Hong Kong from British rule. She is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and lives in Washington with her husband and daughter.
