Keith Humphreys      

Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences at Stanford University

Keith Humphreys is a psychologist who is currently the Esther Ting Memorial Professor at Stanford University, a Senior Research Career Scientist in the Veterans Health Administration, and an Honorary Professor at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College, London. His scholarship has focused on addiction, veterans' health, self-help groups for chronic diseases, electronically-delivered mental health treatments, and the extent to which samples in treatment research differ from real-world patients in everyday clinical practice. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and books and his work has been cited over 10,000 times. He is The Americas Editor for the journal Addiction.

Humphreys has also worked extensively in the public policy arena, including serving in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy under Presidents Bush and Obama. He regularly advises the U.S. Congress, the U.K. Parliament, and state and local governments about public policy related to addiction, public health, and public safety.

Since 2014, he has been a regular contributor at Washington Post. He has also published articles in New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, and The Guardian.
