Known for his comedy work, Kevin James is an actor most recognized for his role as Doug Heffernan on the CBS sitcom "The King of Queens." Another notable TV role was on the sitcom "Kevin Can Wait." James' portrayal in "King of Queens" led to a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
"The King of Queens" aired for nine seasons on CBS, with James serving as a star and executive producer. The show continues to enjoy popularity in syndication around the globe. James began his career in stand-up comedy on the Long Island comedy scene. He transitioned to television following his discovery at the Montreal Comedy Festival, where he signed a network development deal to create his own show.
In 2005, James made his film debut in Hitch, starring alongside Will Smith. He has since appeared in a myriad of films such as 50 First Dates, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown Ups, and Zookeeper. Some of his more recent roles include the 2020 thriller Becky and the 2022 biographical film Home Team, in which he portrayed NFL head coach Sean Payton. In May 2023, it was announced that James will star in the upcoming action-comedy film Guns Up.
Beyond acting, James has also contributed his voice to animated films like Monster House, Barnyard, and the Hotel Transylvania franchise. He further showcased his comedic talent in stand-up specials, including "Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff," "Kevin James: Never Don't Give Up," and "Kevin James: Irregardless."
His work has earned him nominations for various awards, including the Teen Choice Awards, Golden Raspberry Awards, and People's Choice Awards. In 2010, James took on the role of host for the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. He also served as the grand marshal for the Pepsi 400 in both 2007 and 2010, promoting his films.
Aside from his on-screen presence, James produced and starred in the web series Dusty Peacock. In 2020, he revived his YouTube channel, featuring short films. He is married to actress Steffiana de la Cruz, and together, they have four children. James remains a devout Catholic.
