Kevin Massy  

Associate director and associate fellow in the Brookings Institution

Kevin Massy is the associate director and associate fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Energy Security Initiative where is responsible for the management of research projects on domestic US and global energy policy. His work focuses on the geopolitics of energy, the political economy of energy and environment, oil and gas markets, nuclear power, and the economics and technology of low-carbon development.

Massy's ongoing research topics at Brookings include the challenges and opportunities of unconventional oil and gas development, the evolution of domestic and global natural gas markets, the energy economies of the Persian Gulf, the energy and environmental implications of Arctic development, and the implications of nuclear phaseouts in Germany and Japan. He is a member of the Atlantic Council’s Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network and a member of the U.S. Association of Energy Economists.

Before joining Brookings, he worked for the UK Trade and Investment division of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the British Embassy in Washington, DC. A former journalist, most recently as a contributing writer to The Economist magazine, he has written extensively on emerging technologies in the global energy and transportation sectors. He holds an MSFS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, and an MA in International Journalism from City University, London, and a BA from the University of Newcastle.
