Khavi Homsombath
Communications Assistant,United Nations Resident Coordinator's office in Laos
Khavi, currently working as a Communications Assistant at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Vientiane is originally from Vientiane Laos and was born in a multicultural family where his mother is a Vietnamese and his Father is a Thai. Having grown up in such a diverse background had effect in khavi’s active personality and his interest in cultural exchange.
During his school years in college, Khavi had done and joined a number of exchange programs and school activities. The Ship for Southeast Asia Youth Program (SSEAYP) in 2008 was the exchange program that had changed his life. During the exchange program Khavi had learnt a lot regarding to self-development, mutual understanding and respects and his compassion to fix the social issues. Since then Khavi has been utilizing his experiences to give back to society by conducting numbers of awareness raising campaign relating to the environmental issues and youth development in his school and nearby communities. In the following years, khavi also won a chance to join many exchange programs and Business competitions.
In 2012, Khavi was selected by The Ministry of Foreign Affair in Japan to join the 5 month volunteer program regarding to the recovery processes of the March 11th 2011 incident in Japan . During his stay in Japan, Khavi had an opportunity to open his vision toward the peace building studies, and the disaster recovery and prevention programs in Japan.
After completing his mission in Japan, khavi returned to Laos with a new goal: become a social entrepreneur. He then applied for the Mekong Business Model Competition with his business idea, Moringa Plus. With this initiative idea, he had won the first prize and was able to compete in the international round with fellow students from all around the world at Harvard Business School . To continue following his goals, he has been playing an active role to motivate other students in his community preparing for entrepreneurial and social ventures. Currently, he is one of the initial volunteer in the Global Shaper Community, Vientiane Hub.
