Kid Cudi

Rapper, Singer & Actor; Known for "Pursuit of Happiness" & "Man on the Moon"

Kid Cudi is a Brooklyn-based rapper from Cleveland whose debut single, "Day 'n' Nite," became an online favorite in 2008. Born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi in suburban Cleveland, his career took off after he moved to Brooklyn and became affiliated with Fool's Gold, the label of DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. The label released the "Day 'n' Nite" EP in February 2008 and circulated a Crookers remix around the blogosphere, drumming up a good deal of buzz in the process. It didn't hurt that Kid Cudi began to receive increasing press attention, including a nod from Rolling Stone (which touted him among the magazine's Top Five best indie hip-hop artists of 2008).

Not long after the release of "Day 'n' Nite," Kid Cudi began touring with the Fool's Gold collective, which performed at a South by Southwest showcase and subsequently joined forces with Steve Aoki and his Dim Mak collective for a North American tour. After the remixed version of "Day 'n' Nite" climbed the U.K. singles charts, Kid Cudi released his conceptual debut album "Man on the Moon: The End of Day" in the summer of 2009. A year later, he returned with a sequel, "Man on the Moon, Vol. 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager."

In 2012, he teamed with "Day 'n' Nite" producer Dot Da Genius and introduced their rock-rap band, WZRD. A year later, "Indicud" became his highest-charting album on multiple charts. In February 2014, Cudi unexpectedly released his fourth album, "Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon," exclusively to digital retailers with no promotion. In 2015, Cudi released his rock album "Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven" to mixed reception. In 2016, he returned to hip-hop with his sixth album, "Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'," to generally positive reviews. Cudi later released a joint album with Kanye West under the eponymous name Kids See Ghosts. The album was met with critical acclaim.

Cudi also has acting experiences including appearances on "One Tree Hill," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Two Night Stand," "James White," "Empire," and "Dreamland." In the last few years, Cudi has put more time into acting, with roles in movies like X, House Party, Silent Night, Entergalactic, and Trolls Band Together.

In a 2014 interview, Cudi spoke on his struggles with depression and suicide throughout the years: "I’ve dealt with suicide for the past five years. There wasn’t a week or a day that didn’t go by where I was just like, ‘You know, I wanna check out.’ I know what that feels like, I know it comes from loneliness, I know it comes from not having self-worth, not loving yourself." Cudi joined Didi Hirsch's Erasing the Stigma Efforts as a Mental Health Ambassador in 2014. In October 2016, Cudi revealed on his Facebook page that he had checked himself into rehabilitation for depression and suicidal urges. Cudi appeared on RedTableTalk in 2018 and said he has been sober for 2 years and that, previously, he kept his substance abuse problems hidden.
