Kim Mulkey, a Louisiana native and head women's basketball coach at Louisiana State University (LSU), is a six-time national champion and nine-time Hall of Famer. Alongside Bobby Knight and Dean Smith, she is one of just three coaches in college basketball history to win national titles both as a player and a coach.
As the eighth head coach in LSU women’s basketball history, Mulkey achieved the fastest milestone of 600 wins in Division I history in 2020, later securing her 650th win in January 2022 at a record pace. Prior to LSU, she spent 21 successful years as the head coach at Baylor, leading the Lady Bears to three national titles and four Final Fours. During her tenure, Baylor made 19 NCAA Tournament appearances in 20 years and won the women’s NIT championship game in her third year.
Before her time at Baylor, Mulkey spent 19 years at Louisiana Tech, contributing to the Lady Techsters' national powerhouse status with 11 Final Four appearances and three national championships. Overall, she has been part of the national championship game on eight occasions as a player or coach.
Mulkey has been named National Coach of the Year nine times and Big 12 Coach of the Year eight times. She received the New York Athletic Club’s Winged Foot Award after each national championship as a head coach. She was inducted into both the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000 and into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.
