Kimberly Powell is a Principal at ghSMART. She serves private equity and corporate clients in the areas of management assessment, leadership coaching and organizational change initiatives and advises their boards, executives, and investors on their most important leadership challenges. Kim co-leads the The CEO Genome Project featured in a cover article of Harvard Business Review and in the book The CEO Next Door. The CEO Genome Project is an extensive research and client practice supporting CEOs and executives on the path to CEO. The research explores paths and behaviors that lead to the top, typical setbacks CEOs encounter and ways to prevent them.

Prior to joining ghSMART, Kim spent fifteen years with The Boston Consulting Group advising CEOs and senior managers of Fortune 500 companies in the areas of driving transformational change and corporate strategy. As a Senior Manager and Senior Knowledge Expert with The Boston Consulting Group, Kim had global oversight for the firm’s Change Management practice, which spanned topic strategy creation and execution, expert cadre development, intellectual capital creation, training program creation and delivery, and knowledge management and dissemination. She is the author of several publications related to leading during change and change management on BCG Perspectives. Before taking on this global role, Kim was a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group in the Atlanta and Chicago offices. She served clients across multiple industries with a focus in industrial goods, consumer goods and social sector organizations. Her client engagements covered diverse topics including organizational strategy, transformation, operations and change management.

Kim earned a B.A. in History and French from the University of Notre Dame, where she graduated summa cum laude. Kimberly was a F.C. Austin Scholar at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University where she earned an MBA with Honors. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and family.
