Kio Stark

Stranger Enthusiast & Author of "When Strangers Meet"

As an independent learning activist, Kio Stark researches, writes and speaks about the current situation and future of learning outside school. In her forthcoming book "When Strangers Meet," author Kio Stark explores the myriad ways encounters with strangers impact our lives.

Kio Stark is an avid student of talking to strangers -- why we do it, what we can learn from it, and how it enriches our lives. Her obsession has spawned a novel, "Follow Me Down," a New York University course, and "When Strangers Meet," her forthcoming nonfiction TED Book on “the transformative possibility of talking to people you don’t know.”

In her previous book, "Don’t Go Back to School," Stark -- a Yale dropout -- draws on her own life curricula (and the advice of notable selfeducators) to create a practical roadmap for those who seek knowledge outside of academia.
