Kirsten Powers is a New York Times bestselling author, USA Today columnist, and CNN senior political analyst where she regularly appears on "Anderson Cooper 360," "CNN Tonight," and "The Lead with Jake Tapper." Prior to USA Today, Powers was a columnist for the Daily Beast, American Prospect Online, and the New York Post, and she has also written for publications such as The Washington Post, The New Republic, and Elle. Her career in journalism began after a successful stint in politics, including roles as a political appointee in the Clinton Administration and as a staff assistant with the Clinton-Gore presidential transition team.
Powers authored the book "Saving Grace: Speak Your Truth, Stay Centered and Learn to Coexist with People Who Drive You Nuts" in 2021. She has also authored "The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech." In May 2019, she issued a public apology for being "too judgmental and condemning" in her writings and statements.
Throughout her career, Powers has been an advocate for various social issues. She supports universal health care, comprehensive immigration reform, and closing Guantanamo Bay. She's also been critical of measures such as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. She's expressed a preference for a foreign policy of limited engagement.
