NBC's White House Correspondent

Kristen Welker is the White House correspondent for NBC, a position she has held since 2011. She occasionally fills in for Lester Holt as the host on NBC Nightly News and Katy Tur on MSNBC.

Welker has previously worked at ABC affiliates WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and KRCR-TV in Redding/Chico, California. She joined NBC in 2005 at affiliate WCAU in Philadelphia, where she was a reporter and weekend anchor. She then joined NBC News in 2010 as a correspondent based at the NBC News West Coast Headquarters in Burbank, California.

Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Welker was born to a white engineer father and a black real estate agent mother.

Welker graduated from Harvard University in 1998 with honors and a bachelor's degree in history.
