KRS-One

Rapper, Author & Activist

KRS-One, a rapper from the South Bronx, began his journey in hip-hop as a part of the critically acclaimed Boogie Down Productions. In 1993, KRS-One began his solo career, releasing records that have since become cornerstones of hip hop, including songs like "Sound of da Police," "Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)," and "My Philosophy." Not limiting himself to just music, he ventured into the realm of activism, starting the Stop the Violence Movement in response to violence in the hip hop and Black communities. His activism further extends to the vegan lifestyle, championing the cause and becoming a vocal supporter of veganism.

In addition to his music and activism, KRS-One has also shown his versatility by venturing into other art forms, such as film and literature. He was the voice of Chris Cringle in Nike's Most Valuable Puppets commercials, and he narrated the 2011 film Rhyme and Punishment. His written work includes "The Gospel of Hip Hop" where he explores hip hop as a metaphysical principle and an energy, predicting that his book will form the basis of a new religion in 100 years. He also co-authored a comic book titled "Break the Chain" with illustrator Kyle Baker.

KRS-One's contributions to music have been recognized with several awards, including VH1 Hip Hop Honors and BET Hip Hop Awards. His influence extends beyond the United States, having toured internationally and making his first trip to Australia in 2012. KRS-One continues to make an impact in the world of music, activism, and beyond, serving as a testament to his resilience and commitment to his craft.
