He has produced at high Million Dollar Round Table production levels as a life insurance salesman. He achieved the top production level at one of the nation's largest independent broker-dealers. He has been a fee-only planner and a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Planners (NAPFA).

In the 1990’s D was one of the masterminds who created reinsurance for viaticals and senior settlements – a process that fueled the boom in the life insurance settlement industry today. He sold his independent fee-based advisory business in 2004, after just 35 days on the market with FP Transitions.

A visionary who’s biased toward taking action, D founded The Experienced Advisor LLC in 2003 – a coaching program for advisors who wanted to either experience significant growth and/or become and independent advisor (transition away from a wirehouse). He has now rolled that coaching program into his latest brainstorm, the JATO Institute, an organization that brings power-packed coaching programs to advisors.

He has written for Life Insurance Selling and Senior Advisor, and was on the cover of LAN magazine (National Underwriter Company, Dec 1994). He has been quoted in Financial Planning magazine, Dow Jones and the Fauquier Times Democrat. In 2005, he was profiled in a feature story in Financial Advisor magazine. The Strategic Coach featured D in two separate editions of Creative Destruction focusing on his work in helping Wirehouse based Advisors become independent.

A popular speaker at industry conferences and events, D has a gift for cutting to the heart of the matter in a funny, enlightening and empowering way. His personal stories touch attendees and make them reexamine their own lives. He has presented keynotes, workshops and teleconferences for: Capital Analysts, Koaches Korner, Fidelity, Columbia Management, The Virtual University of the FPA, The FPA Northern California Regional, Securities America and The Garrett Planning Network.

While in the Marine Corp’s Officer Candidates’ School, D learned many hard life lessons … and marveled at new technology – such as the jets strapped to the backs of  cargo planes to help them get off the ground and to their desired altitude quickly and safely. Jet Assisted Take Off – “JATO” as it is called – became the inspiration for creating his JATO for Advisors program in 2006.
