Larry Walsh

U.S. Army Veteran, Cyclist, Author & Mental Health Advocate

Larry Walsh is a US Army veteran with almost thirty years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2018, Walsh left the corporate world to cycle into the heart of America, and it changed his life forever. In his first of two #1 New Releases, "Suit to Saddle-Cycling to Self-Discovery on the Southern Tier," Walsh chronicles his story of triumph over adversity cycling the 3,120-mile Southern Tier from California to Florida. He uncovers a side of himself that he thought was long forgotten--one filled with true grit and determination. In 2019, the allure of the road called him again. He completed the Trans Am Bike Race cycling 4,200 miles from Oregon to Virginia. Only 263 solo cyclists have finished the grueling unsupported cross-country trek. Long-distance riding began as a way to find purpose after being dismissed by corporate America.

In second book, "Forty to Finish-Cycling to Victory on the Trans America Bike Trail," Walsh continues his journey, inviting readers for a cyclist’s love letter to the American road and an exhilarating demonstration of the capabilities of the human spirit.

He has appeared on the "We Get Outdoors" South Africa podcast, Morris Sussex Sports NJ TV, and is a featured guest at cycling clubs, libraries, VFWs, and senior centers.

A family man, a veteran, a basketball enthusiast, and a dreamer, Walsh is the proud father of three beautiful children and lives in Morris County, New Jersey, with Kelley, his wife of 30 years.

  • Is an extended bike ride on your bucket list?
  • Do you desire to write a book someday?
  • Do assumed constraints limit your potential?

Walsh answered yes to all and shares his story of an improbable journey to self-discovery and resolve.

At age 56, unsure what to do with his life after being laid off from his job, Walsh stepped away from corporate life and cycled into the heart of America. From September 2018 to July 2019, he rode his bicycle 7,300 miles through 18 states and 528 towns.

Seeing America Up Close, one pedal rotation at a time, Walsh uncovers that cycling was a way to understand that the true meaning of a life well-lived is the journey.
