LaShawn McIver    

Senior Vice President & Chief Health Equity Officer at AHIP; Former Director of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Minority Health

Dr. LaShawn McIver is a proven public health leader with over 20+ years of experience driving successful health initiatives and public policy efforts aimed at promoting health equity, improving health outcomes, increasing access to quality care and promoting health system reform. In 2023, she joined AHIP -- the national association whose members provide health care coverage, services, and solutions to hundreds of millions of Americans -- as its inaugural Senior Vice President & Chief Health Equity Officer. In this role she serves as a thought leader for AHIP’s health equity strategies and provides strategic leadership to drive an overall industry wide Health Equity Impact Strategy.

Dr. McIver is the former Director of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) Office of Minority Health. For nearly three years she provided transformative leadership, vision and direction to address CMS minority health and health disparities goals. Before joining CMS, Dr. McIver led Government Affairs and Advocacy at the American Diabetes Association as its Senior Vice President & Chief Advocacy Officer. Additionally, she served as an HIV/AIDS fellow at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a program Director at the Baltimore City health department and a Research Associate for the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Dr. McIver earned a medical degree in International Health and Medicine through the Medical School for International Health in collaboration with Columbia University's Medical Center and a master's degree in public health from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
