Laura Dern, an American actress, has had a noteworthy career with a multitude of notable performances in both film and television. Rising to prominence in the 80s, Dern's performances in films such as "Mask," "Blue Velvet," and "Wild at Heart" set the stage for a successful career. Her role in "Rambling Rose" earned her first Academy Award nomination, and her international breakthrough came with the role of Ellie Sattler in "Jurassic Park." Dern's performances in the television film "Recount" and the comedy series "Enlightened" garnered her two Golden Globe awards, while her role in the drama series "Big Little Lies" won her a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
Continuing her successful career, Dern's supporting roles in films like "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," "Little Women," and "Marriage Story" further showcased her range as an actress. Her performance as a divorce lawyer in "Marriage Story" won her an Academy Award and her fifth Golden Globe Award. Dern's stint in the film industry also saw her working with director David Lynch in films like "Mask," "Blue Velvet," and "Wild at Heart," which were critical successes. She portrayed a lesbian character in the historic "The Puppy Episode" of the sitcom "Ellen," for which she received her third Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series.
In addition to her acting career, Dern has also been productive in her role as a producer. She established Jaywalker Pictures, a Los Angeles-based production company focused on great storytelling in film and television. The company recently released the feature documentary, "The Way I See It" which garnered a News & Documentary Emmy nomination. They also served as executive producer on the Academy Award-winning animated short film "If Anything Happens I Love You." Dern also serves as a trustee for the Academy Museum and has been involved in lung health advocacy, working with organizations like lung.org. Her contributions to the film industry were recognized when she was selected to serve on the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Board of Governors.
