Laura Jedeed

Journalist, Writer & Videographer

Laura Jedeed is an freelance journalist who focuses primarily on American conservatism and the far right. Her work has appeared in many outlets, including The New Republic, New York Magazine, and Rolling Stone. She also provided on-the-ground coverage of the Portland Black Lives Matter protests in the summer and fall of 2020.

Jedeed grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh and the Fox News primetime lineup, and joined the Army immediately after high school out of a desire to keep America safe by fighting the War on Terror. Her two deployments to Afghanistan convinced her that these wars were neither bringing freedom and democracy nor protecting Americans from harm, and this realization made her question the other things she learned as a child. Today, Jedeed considers herself a leftist. Her background influences every aspect of her work, which strives to understand and explain why conservatives believe the things they do (and why they're wrong) instead of belittling and demonizing them.

When not researching and reporting, Jedeed enjoys reading, hiking, and searching for the best happy hour in New York City
