Laura Kim

Design & Co-Founder of Monse

Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Laura Kim's journey into the world of fashion began under the nurturing guidance of her grandmother, a retired textile manufacturer. It was here, amidst the hum of sewing machines and the rustle of fabric, that Kim first discovered her passion for design. Under her grandmother's tutelage, she honed her skills in sewing, patternmaking, and sketching.

Eager to expand her horizons, Kim ventured to New York City to pursue her dreams at the prestigious Pratt Institute. Her exceptional talent quickly garnered attention, earning her scholarships from esteemed organizations such as the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) and Fashion Group International.

During her time as a fashion student, Kim seized invaluable opportunities to intern at renowned fashion houses including TSE Cashmere, Donna Karan, and Oscar de la Renta. It was at the latter where her potential truly shone. Impressed by her dedication and creativity, Mr. Oscar de la Renta himself extended an offer of permanent employment.

Kim served as the design director under the legendary Oscar de la Renta. In this pivotal role, she oversaw every facet of collection development, lending her expertise to fabric design, ready-to-wear ensembles, knitwear, and accessories. She is the Co-Founder of Monse.
