Lauryn Williams
Olympic Sprinter and Bobsled Athlete; First American Woman to Win Medals in Both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games
Lauryn Williams is a financial planner, author, podcaster, motivational speaker and volunteer. But that's not why most people recognize her name. Over a period of twelve years, she competed at the elite level in two Olympic sports. Williams secured a spot on four US Olympic teams earning one gold and two silver medals. She is also the first American woman to earn medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
She might be diminutive in stature, at a mere 5'3-1/4", but the frequency of her churning legs was unmatched and made her hard to beat. After three Olympic Games in track and field, she announced her retirement in 2013. However, a chance meeting prompted Williams to try her hand at Bobsledding. Less than a week after touching a sled for the first time, her next Olympic journey began. Six months later she was at her fourth Olympic Games.
While the sports journey had been amazing, Williams always wanted to be prepared for a life off the field of play. To prepare she earned a BA and an MBA in Finance and Business while competing. After retiring, she was struck with a passion for empowering others with financial literacy and became a Certified Financial Planner. She now runs her own financial planning company, Worth Winning, helping young professionals, as well as athletes, organize and optimize their finances. Her passion is centered around getting people to feel comfortable discussing money. Her podcast "Worth Listening" shares the financial stories of other professionals to help listeners build the courage to be open about and take control of their own money story.
Despite wearing many hats, she makes it a priority to donate some of her time to various causes. She is currently involved in the Junior League, USATF Athletes Advisory Committee, the United States Anti Doping Agency, and the World Anti Doping Agency. In 2019, Williams published her first book, "The Oval Office: a 4x Olympian's Guide to Professional Track & Field" to help the next generation of track and field athletes.
Residing in Dallas, TX with her husband and Great Dane, Williams is on a mission to impact as many people as she can in her lifetime.
