Le Luong Minh  

Secretary-General, ASEAN

Le Luong Minh is the Secretary-General of ASEAN. Previously, Minh was Vietnam’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. From 2004 to 2011, Minh was Vietnam’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative to the United Nations. During this time, he was concurrently Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. Minh was appointed Deputy Director-General for International Organizations in 1993 and was later appointed as Ambassador – Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN at Headquarters. Between 1999 and 2002, Minh was Deputy Director-General, then Acting Director-General for International Organizations in the Foreign Ministry. He became Acting Director-General, then Director-General for Multilateral Economic Cooperation in the Foreign Ministry. Minh studied diplomacy at the University of Foreign Affairs (now the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam), Hanoi, Vietnam, and studied linguistics and English literature at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is a native of Thanh Hoa, Vietnam.
