Lee Hawkins is a journalist, author, and musician. He is a special correspondent and producer for APM Studios, a recipient of the 2022-23 O'Brien Fellowship for Public Service Journalism, and the principal of his own production company that produces multimedia journalism projects.

Between 2003 to April of 2022, Hawkins served as a reporter, on-air host, and news editor for the Wall Street Journal, where he most recently covered education and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on children and families. Before joining the education team at WSJ in 2020, he was a general assignment reporter, working across all media platforms, including print, video, and television. He is also known for his on-camera interviews with influential newsmakers and icons. He has reported from around the U.S. and world and has written hundreds of stories for all sections of the WSJ, including Page One. He was a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in the Explanatory Reporting category and a finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award in 2021, among other honors and distinctions. He is also a four-time winner of the National Association of Black Journalist's "Salute to Excellence" Award and a Logan Nonfiction Fellowship recipient.

Hawkins is the author of the book "Nobody's Slave: How Uncovering My Family's History Set Me Free," which is set to be published in 2023.
