Lewis Hamilton

British Formula 1 Racing Driver; Currently Racing for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Team

Lewis Hamilton embarked on his car racing journey in the 2001 British Formula Renault Winter Series and proceeded to make his debut in the British Formula 3 Championship in 2002. His nascent career saw him clinch victories at the Bahrain F3 Superprix and twice at the Macau F3 Grand Prix. His dedication and talent led him to win the GP2 championship in 2006, setting the stage for his imminent entry into Formula One. Hamilton's first Formula One victory came at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, and he swiftly followed this up by winning his first Formula One World Championship title in 2008.

Hamilton's Formula One career was marked by consistent high performance and numerous podium finishes. He joined Mercedes in 2013, beginning a successful partnership that saw him secure seven drivers' titles from 2014 to 2020. Notably, Hamilton chose car number 44 for his career, a number that would become synonymous with his success. His record-breaking streak included becoming the first driver to surpass 100 pole positions and 100 race wins during the 2021 season. Despite a bout with COVID-19 in 2020, Hamilton's resolve remained unshaken, and he continued to be a formidable contender in the seasons that followed.

Aside from his racing accolades, Hamilton is known for his advocacy for combating racism and increasing diversity in motorsport. His efforts were recognized when he was listed in the 2020 Time 100 and knighted in the 2021 New Year Honours. Hamilton's commitment to social justice was evident when he took the knee and wore Black Lives Matter t-shirts in support of the movement. As he prepares to join Ferrari in 2025, fulfilling one of his childhood dreams, Hamilton leaves behind a legacy of not just formidable racing success, but also of meaningful social activism within the sport.
