Li Na

Chinese Former Professional Tennis Player; First Asian Player to Win Grand Slam Singles Title

Li Na, who retired from professional tennis in 2014, has a stellar career that redefined the history of Asian tennis. She not only claimed victory at the 2011 French Open but also added the 2014 Australian Open to her major wins, establishing herself as the greatest Chinese tennis player of all time.

Her journey to success began with her first Grand Slam final appearance at the 2011 Australian Open, making her the first player from an Asian country to reach this stage. This paved the way for further groundbreaking achievements, including being the first Asian player to achieve a career-high WTA ranking of world No. 2 in 2014.

Li Na's accomplishments extended beyond her Grand Slam titles; she was the first Asian Grand Slam singles champion and the first Chinese player to win a WTA tour title at the Guangzhou International Women's Open in 2004. All these successes contributed to her peak ranking of world number six, a record for an Asian-born tennis player, and her induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019.

As a highly influential figure in the world of tennis and sports, Li Na continues to have an active role as a public speaker and an advocate for women's rights, in addition to contributing significantly to the development of young talent through a tennis academy she established in China.
