Libby Schaaf          

Mayor, City of Oakland

Libby Schaaf is an American politician and is the current mayor of Oakland, California. She is a former member of the Oakland City Council. Schaaf is a member of the Democratic Party.

She first became involved with local government as a legislative aide for Oakland city council president Ignacio De La Fuente. Schaaf then moved up to be a special assistant to then-Mayor Jerry Brown. Before joining the city council, she served as the Economic Policy Advisor for the council.

Once on city council, Schaaf fought to raise the minimum wage. She also worked to increase government transparency and make Oakland safer by working with the Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff's Department. As mayor, Schaaf publicized the first Department of Transportation of Oakland.

Schaaf is a graduate of Rollins College and also has a J.D. from Loyola Law School.
