Lisa Welchman

President of Digital Governance Solutions at ActiveStandards

Lisa is a leading authority on digital governance. Her core strength is helping to resolve differences of opinion among digital stakeholders and maturing digital operations. She works closely with organizations to understand why there are challenges around managing the organization’s digital presence and then works collaboratively with her clients to create solutions to resolve those challenges. She is a sought-after speaker who presents at conferences around the globe evangelizing digital governance.

Drawing from two decades of experience guiding multinational enterprises, Welchman has paved the way in the discipline of digital governance. Her early work at Netscape, Cisco Systems, and her own consultancy, WelchmanPierpoint (acquired by ActiveStandards in 2014), led her to establish the first structured methodology for assessing digital governance maturity within governmental agencies, NGOs, higher education institutions and large, multinational businesses. Using this methodology, Lisa has helped organizations that were mired by stalled digital initiatives, or that were unable to effectively develop new ones, to evolve their digital efforts into an efficient and profitable driver of the business’ core objectives.

“Digital governance is the safeguard against a broad range of digital sins – and their resulting losses,” says Welchman. “While it may not get as much attention as other areas of corporate governance, it is absolutely vital for top leaders to shake off any apathy or bias toward digital in order to oversee its direction and enforce standards.”

Lisa has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of North Carolina and was a Philosophy Fellow at Columbia University.

Her book, "Managing Chaos: Digital Governance by Design," is to be published by Rosenfeld Media. Her book provides the vision and guidance leaders need to spark positive change, innovation and digital transformation in their organizations.
