Liz Hoffman

Business & Finance Editor at Semafor; Author of "Crash Landing"

Liz Hoffman is the Business and Finance Editor at Semafor, a global news organization that launched in 2022. Previously, she spent nine years at The Wall Street Journal, covering financial markets, corporate dealmaking, and the machinations of Wall Street.

Hoffman joined the Journal in 2013 covering mergers and acquisitions and broke news on some of the biggest corporate tie-ups of all time, including Burger King and Tim Horton's, Baker Hughes and Halliburton, Dell and EMC, and a hostile bid for Hershey's, her hometown corporate titan. She later covered investment banking, producing a string of front-page articles and scoops on Goldman Sachs’s push into Main Street, the travails of the world’s largest venture capital fund, and the coronavirus pandemic’s toll on financial markets. Her book, "Crash Landing: The Inside Story of How the World's Biggest Companies Survived an Economy on the Brink," published in 2023, explores the COVID pandemic’s economic toll.

Hoffman graduated from Tufts University and has a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
