Liz Moore
NYT Bestselling Author Known for "Heft," "The Unseen World," "Long Bright River" & "The God of the Woods"; Director of the MFA Program in Creative Writing at Temple University
Liz Moore is an acclaimed author known for her deeply insightful fiction and creative nonfiction. Her debut novel, "The Words of Every Song," set in a fictional New York City record company, drew on her experiences as a musician and received critical praise, including a starred review from Kirkus. After publishing her first novel, Moore earned her MFA in Fiction from Hunter College and relocated to Philadelphia upon receiving the ArtsEdge residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Her second novel, "Heft," brought her further recognition, as she was long-listed for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and landed on several "Best of 2012" lists, including NPR’s.
Moore’s third novel, "The Unseen World," was met with rave reviews, lauded as “fiercely intelligent” by The New York Times and “ethereal and elegant” by The Washington Post. It appeared on multiple "Best of 2016" lists, solidifying Moore’s reputation for crafting compelling and introspective narratives. Alongside her novels, Moore’s short fiction and essays have been featured in Tin House, The New York Times, and Narrative Magazine, and she has earned accolades such as the Medici Book Club Prize, Philadelphia's Athenaeum Literary Award, and the prestigious Rome Prize in Literature.
In 2020, Moore published "Long Bright River," a New York Times bestseller and international success that has been translated into 21 languages. The novel was also selected as a Book of the Month Club pick and was highlighted in Barack Obama’s list of favorite books that year. Moore co-created a limited-series adaptation of "Long Bright River," set to premiere in 2025 on Peacock, starring Amanda Seyfried. Her latest novel, "The God of the Woods," debuted at #1 among independent bookstores and has already spent eight weeks on the bestseller list, with Moore appearing on national programs like "The Tonight Show" for its promotion.
Moore lives in Philadelphia with her family and serves as the Director of the MFA program in Creative Writing at Temple University. Her success continues with Sony Pictures Television optioning both "The Unseen World" and "The God of the Woods," marking Moore as a prominent voice in contemporary American literature.
