Founder of Alzheimer's Speaks & Co-Founder of Dementia Map Global Resource Directory

Lori La Bey is a renowned advocate dedicated to transforming the global dementia care culture from crisis-driven to comfort-focused. Recognized as the #1 Influencer Online for Alzheimer’s by Sharecare and Dr. Oz, she has been honored by Maria Shriver as an “Architect of Change” and named a "Health Hero" by Oprah Winfrey. With over thirty years of personal experience caring for her mother with dementia, La Bey is deeply passionate about initiating change across multiple levels of dementia care. As a professional speaker, she shares her insights and expertise, emphasizing the need for improved care practices and support systems for individuals and families affected by dementia.

In 2011, La Bey founded "Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio," believed to be the first program in the world dedicated to dementia awareness and care. She also launched "Dementia Chats™," a webinar series featuring experts living with dementia, and in 2020, she introduced "Dementia Quick Tips™," a video series aimed at providing practical advice for caregivers. A long-held dream of La Bey's came true when she partnered with Dave Wiederrich, founder of the Memory Café Directory, to create "Dementia Map," a global resource directory for dementia-related services and support.

As the host of "Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio" and "Dementia Chats™," La Bey fosters conversations about dementia care needs worldwide. Known for her calm, engaging, and insightful presentations, she has been described by audience members as someone who shifts perspectives and empowers others to provide better care. Her mission is to elevate best practices in dementia care while giving a voice to all stakeholders, from patients and caregivers to medical professionals and communities.

La Bey’s commitment to building dementia-friendly communities has had a significant impact. In 2013, she played a key role in launching the first Dementia Friendly Community in the U.S. and started what is believed to be the first Memory Café in the U.S. in Roseville, Minnesota, in 2011. Her "Dementia Friendly Campaign" aims to shift public perception, foster acceptance, and provide essential resources to individuals, businesses, and communities facing the challenges of dementia.
