Lori Peterson

Software Developer.

Lori Peterson has been fighting harassment, discrimination and other injustices since she was a kid. Her unequivocal passion for justice fuels and informs her law practice just as much as it has her life.

Representing those who have been harmed by sexism, racism and other forms of discrimination is second nature to Lori. Throughout her life she has donated substantial time, energy and resources to fighting discrimination and other forms of injustice.

Lori was born in Fargo, ND and raised in a town of 1200 people in northwestern Minnesota. As a kid, she was active in band, musicals, 4H (with her quarterhorse, Duke), choir, and other activities. By the age of 12, she became committed to working for Jimmy Carter’s run for the presidency and actively campaigned for him, ranging from doorknocking to lit drops. By the time she was 17, Lori was co-chair of her county DFL party and served on the DFL State Central Committee. Shortly thereafter, she began positions as paid staff on several state wide political races.

During college, she founded an animal rights organization and started an animal rescue and adoption group called Adopt-A-Pet of Fargo-Moorhead, a nonprofit that still is successful in saving hundreds of orphaned animals every year. Today she continues to invest her time and resources in these causes, especially in saving orphaned animals and fighting animal abuse.

Also during her time at Moorhead State, Lori began public speaking against sexism and violence against women and led efforts to confront misogyny in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Before graduating from college, Lori was honored to be awarded the Harry S. Truman Scholarship for the state of Minnesota. She utilized this national scholarship to attend law school. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1990.

Lori’s passion for justice stems, in part, from her long-term friendship with President Jimmy Carter. For over 30 years, President Carter’s mentorship has shaped and influenced Lori’s commitment to equality, justice and philanthropy. She has been honored to spend time with the Carters in their home in Plains, Georgia and in Minnesota. Their friendship continues today.

A fierce and effective representative, Lori loves to take on the big guys: bankers, lawyers, pro-athletes, doctors, CEOs, etc. She isn’t intimidated by status, financial resources or fame. Like she says, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall."

Her work has been featured in Time, Newsweek, CNN, Canadian Broadcasting Corp., the BBC, PrimeTime Live, Dateline NBC, Entertainment Tonight, Larry King Live, Redbook, McNeil Lehrer News Hour and more. Two of her landmark cases include a multiple client litigation against the Strohs Brewery and a multiple client litigation against the Hooters restaurant chain.

Lori Peterson is ready to stand up and fight for you.
