LOUIS J. GUERRA Biography / Guest Speaker

Louis Guerra was born and raised on Long Island. He discovered his love for storytelling and filmmaking when he was twelve years old, and during his Summers while playing baseball for half a Summer he also enrolled in various television and film workshops, learning how to creatively tell stories on film.

He is the youngest of three, and has attended college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. There he majored in Radio/TV/Film production and earned a minor in Creative Writing for the Media. While at NU, Louis served as an intern on the film, “Jacob’s Ladder,” and through that internship, he was offered his first job as a production assistant on the feature, “JFK.”

It was on this project that Louis learned the path to becoming an Assistant Director. Recently, he performed duties as the 1st AD on the now airing FX dramatic series, “Lights Out.” Past credits include “Ugly Betty.” “I Hate Valentine’s Day,” “Cold Case,” “25/8,” “Enchanted,” “The Pink Panther, Part Deux,” “Law and Order,” and “Law and Order: Criminal Intent.”

Louis also just wrapped production on “The Shunning,” in December of 2010. It was shot on location in Winston-Salem, N.C., and is an upcoming movie of the week for the Hallmark Channel.

Louis participates as well in The Director’s Guild of America, and has served as the Chairman of the AD/UPM Council for five years now and running. He has also been privileged to serve on the DGA Negotiating Committee in Los Angeles for three rounds. It is this committee that bargains good faith contracts with the motion picture and television studios (AMPTP) for all DGA members.

In between film and television projects, Louis guest speaks and teaches at various institutions, discussing the role and performances of his job skills. He has spoken and/or taught at functions given by the Institute for International Research, NYU, Hofstra, MTV Networks, Chapman University, Long Island BOCES, and The Connecticut Film Industry Trainng Program.

He is married to his wife, Kristina, of nine years and they are hoping to start a family. Louis loves to play baseball, and does so competitively every Summer. Also, he enjoys exercise, skiing, the theater, travel, and writing. He occasionally works as an actor and models part time on independent projects as well.
