Head Football Coach of Illinois Fighting Illini

Lovie Smith is one of the most well-respected coaches in the NFL and the current head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith accumulated an 81-63 record in nine seasons as the Chicago Bears head coach. The Bears won three division titles and went to Super Bowl XLI. An 11-5 record in Smith’s second season was recognized with the AP NFL Coach of the Year Award. He gained a name in the coaching world as defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams and linebackers coach with the Buccaneers. Smith went to Super Bowl XXXVI with the Rams and helped develop the Tampa 2 defense with the Bucs. Prior to that, he had been a college and high school assistant coach. As a player, Smith was a two-time All-American in college at Tulsa. At Big Sandy High School, his team won three straight state titles. Smith is a devout Christian and supporter of the American Diabetes Association.
