Luca Barone was born in Rome (Italy) on February 13th, 1981, son of Emilio and Elisabetta (Laurenti) Barone. He is married to Ginevra Menghi and has a daughter named Sveva.

Luca Barone, Ph.D., is Manager of the Private Equity team at Sator, an independent financial group headquartered in Rome, and Executive of Banca Profilo, an affiliated banking group headquartered in Milan which offers private banking and advisory services, as well as financial services for institutional investors.

Prior to this position, he worked at Goldman Sachs International, London, as an Executive Director in the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodity division (October 2004 - June 2009). He began his career at Goldman as a strategist in the Credit Derivatives Quantitative Strategy team (October 2004 - May 2007) and then moved to Exotic Credit Trading. In the former position, he worked on designing, structuring and pricing credit derivatives products; in the latter position, he himself traded and managed risks on credit derivatives totaling more than $30 billion of notional capital. He had previously worked at Capitalia in the CEO’s technical staff (2003) and at Salomon Brothers International as summer analyst in the Investment Bank Division (2002).

Luca Barone has given lectures at the Accademia dei Lincei, at the London Business School and at the University of Udine. He has published academic articles in international journals of economics and finance (e.g. “Bruno de Finetti and the Case of the Critical Line’s Last Segment”, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, 2008) and has translated the book Derivatives by Mark Rubinstein for Il Sole 24 Ore. As one of the five members of the UC Berkeley team, he won the 2005 Lehman Brothers Financial Engineering Competition defeating teams from Wharton, MIT, Chicago, Columbia and Carnegie Mellon. He was a participant of the 2009 Young Leaders Conference, held in Chicago and promoted by The Council for the United States and Italy. He is affiliated with the Aspen Institute, as Aspen Junior Fellow (AJF), and with the Haas Alumni Network (University of California at Berkeley). Luca Barone received his Ph.D. in Finance in 2007, from Luiss Guido Carli University, his Master’s Degree in Financial Engineering in 2005, from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, and his B.A./M.A. in Economics and Finance in 2003, from Luiss Guido Carli University (cum laude and special mention).
