Director, Screenwriter & Producer; Known for "Call Me By Your Name"

Luca Guadagnino is an Italian director, screenwriter and producer, known for his visually arresting style and his affecting psychological portraits. He has directed a number of films both in America and in Europe, and has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Film for his movie, I Am Love, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture for Call Me by Your Name.

Guadagnino was born in Palermo to a Sicilian father and an Algerian mother, spending much of his childhood in Ethiopia where his father was a professor. Later, Guadagnino studied literature at the University of Palermo, and the history of cinema at Sapienza University in Rome. He wrote his thesis on the work of Jonathan Demme, and soon was making films of his own.

His first film was The Protagonists in 1999, starring Tilda Swinton, followed by Cuoco Contagino, followed by Melissa P. In 2009, he directed and wrote the film I Am Love, also starring Tilda Swinton, which gained him acclaim on an international scale, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Film.
