Lucille F. Sider

Sexual Abuse Survivor, Clinical Psychologist, Clergywoman & Author

As the author of Light Shines In The Darkness: My Healing Journey Through Sexual Abuse and Depression, Lucille Sider is adding her voice to the #MeToo and the #WhyIDidn’tReport Movements. In her book, she not only tells her story but then steps back to analyze it using her years of experience as a clinical psychologist and clergywoman. In so doing, Sider hopes to provide insight and courage to those who are just beginning their journey of healing after sexual abuse.

Currently, Sider can be found travelling to churches and organizations across the country giving talks and leading workshops on her book. She addresses a wide range of topics such as keeping secrets, reporting abuse when the predator is a friend or relative, wrestling with the issue of forgiveness and establishing spiritual and psychological practices that bring stability to those who live with mental illness that originated in sexual abuse.

Although now retired, she is active as a volunteer in the Lighthouse Program of Edgewater Presbyterian Church, Chicago, which provides spiritual nurture to those who live with severe mental challenges. She is also active in two retirement communities with those who live with severe memory challenges.

She is a Canadian who grew up in rural Canada but now lives in Chicago.
