Lucy Flores

Candidate for Nevada Lt. Governor

Before she started law school, before she graduated from the University of Southern California, even before she became a leader in her community, Lucy Flores was growing up in North Las Vegas. Lucy was first exposed to leadership by her father who raised her family on his own, working multiple jobs just to make ends meet.

The daughter of immigrants, Lucy grew up in a challenging community and experienced many hardships. Like many kids in Nevada, she fell through the cracks and eventually dropped out of high school, but through hard work and the investment of people who believed in her, she got her GED, enrolled in community college and eventually earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from USC.

Lucy’s tenacity took her on a path to college where she studied political science, worked in the School of Policy Planning and Development and was an Unruh Institute of Politics scholar. From there, Lucy returned to Nevada and enrolled at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she received her Juris Doctorate.

A fierce advocate for her community, Lucy has volunteered for outreach programs across the state. In 2008, Lucy was appointed to the Nevada Commission on Minority Affairs. From this position, Lucy had the opportunity to advocate for the renewal of the state’s ombudsman for minority consumer affairs, ensuring equal protection under Nevada’s consumer protection laws.

Upon her election to the Nevada State Assembly from District 28, Lucy joined three other Hispanic females in becoming the first Hispanic women to serve in the Nevada legislature. She was promoted to a leadership position prior to the start of the 2013 legislative session, serving as an Assistant Majority Whip and also serves as Vice-Chair of the Nevada Hispanic Legislative Caucus.

Lucy has successfully passed landmark legislation to improve the way young people are tested in high school, to protect consumers from predatory unauthorized practice of law, and to protect victims of domestic violence from their abusers.

Lucy is running for Lt. Governor to bring a vision and a voice to Nevada that hasn’t been heard before. Lucy doesn’t have the background of a typical politician, but she has experienced firsthand the difference making an investment in people can make. It is what has inspired her into public service and it is what fuels her campaign for Lt. Governor.
