Indian American Screenwriter and Film Director; Known for "The Sixth Sense" & "Signs"

Screenwriter, director, and producer M. Night Shyamalan has captured the attention of audiences around the world for two decades, creating films that have grossed more than $3 billion worldwide. His thrillers include The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, The Visit and Spilt, and Glass.

Shyamalan began making films at a young age in his hometown in Pennsylvania. During his final year at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, he wrote and shot the film Praying with Anger, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 1999, Shyamalan wrote and directed the hit film The Sixth Sense starring Bruce Willis. The film received a total of six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Shyamalan has since been knows as a master of suspense.

In January of 2019, Shyamalan released Glass with Universal Studios, the third installation of a 19-year trilogy that includes both 2000’s Unbreakable and 2017’s Split. Opening #1 at the box office, Glass has grossed almost 250M worldwide.

Shyamalan executive produced SERVANT, a half hour thriller that debuted on Apple TV+ on November 28th, 2019. He directed two episodes, including the pilot.

Shyamalan also devotes his time to the philanthropic projects of his foundation which he cofounded with his wife, Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan, in 2001. The M. Night Shyamalan Foundation is dedicated to supporting remarkable leaders and their grassroots efforts to remove the barriers created by poverty and inequality in their communities.

Shyamalan continues to make films in the suburbs of Philadelphia, where he resides with his family.
