Ma Weihua  

President and Chief Executive Officer, China Merchants Bank, People's Republic of China

Ma Weihua, male, Han nationality, was born in 1949 and studied in the Economics Department at Jilin University and specialized in national economy administration. He holds a doctorate in economics.

A senior economic engineer, Ma served as the deputy chief and later the deputy secretary of the State Development and Planning Commission Comprehensive Planning Department. He has provincial government experience from his time with the Liaoning and Anhui governments. In 1988, he joined the People's Bank of China and proceeded to serve in a series of executive positions. Ma was deputy chief of the bank's general office and deputy director of the planning fund department he eventually was made president of bank's Hainan branch.

In 1999, he joined China Merchants Bank and became the president of their head office. Ma has also directed the China Society of Finance and Banking as well as the China Association of Entrepreneurs.
