Marc Cornelissen

Adventurer and innitiator Climate Change College

After Marc Cornelissen completed his studies in 1995 at the Technical University in Delft, the Netherlands, he decided to trade in his promising career as an architect for that of a professional adventurer and organizer of expeditions. As an entrepreneur Marc operates in a harsh reality, at the cutting edge, and is forever searching for just the right strategy, the best team and the satisfaction of a project that is deemed successful by everyone involved.

His experiences with large and often complex expeditions form the basis for many television documentaries, books, publications and intriguing lectures and training programs for business organizations.

Inspired by a number of ski trips across the frozen sea straits of the Canadian Archipelago, Marc made a failed attempt in 1996, to reach the Magnetic North Pole. A year later, in 1997, he returned to northern Canada to carry out a successful expedition to the Geographic North Pole. Following a 70-day trek on foot across the pack ice of the Arctic Ocean, he reached the northern-most point of the earth with a four-member team. No Dutchman had ever before accomplished this impressive feat!

During the past few years, Marc was a member of the "Origin Xpedition to the Source" project. This project consisted of a series of four expeditions based on the four elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The project transported different expeditionary teams to Australia, Peru, Ecuador, Papua and Antarctica. Marc was (jointly) responsible for all facets of the project’s organization, including team selection, acquisition of sponsorships, development of materials, media productions and reporting. He furthermore participated in three of the four expeditions.

In January 2001, he returned from Antarctica. There he completed a 2,300-kilometer expedition together with Wilco van Rooijen. After they reached the South Pole, they returned to the base from which the expedition departed. They completed this journey entirely on their own strength. The completion of this feat has made Marc a member of a very select group of people that has succeeded in reaching both the North Pole and the South Pole on their own strength. Fewer people can make this claim than the number of people who have landed on the moon!

Arctic - Antarctica 2002

During his expeditions to the North Pole and the South Pole, Marc deeply penetrated the desolate icy wastelands of Mother Earth. Under the most difficult of circumstances he documented these exceptional terrains. He has made a unique selection from his photographic archives for this Arctic – Antarctica 2002 calendar. This selection provides a unique sketch of the surrealistic décor of these polar domains, in which the human element in all its vulnerability is a central theme. It is precisely in this environment that the adventure of exploration is strongly magnified and painted in the starkest of contrasts.

Marc Cornelissen is an inspiring speaker who is much in demand by the international business community.
