Maren Morris

Country Singer-Songwriter Known for "My Church," "Rich" & "Girl"

Maren Morris is a country music singer-songwriter known for songs like “My Church,” “Rich” and “Girl.” Morris is also a member of The Highwomen, a country supergroup consisting of her, Amanda Shires (Jason Isbell’s wife), Brandi Carlile, and Natalie Hemby.

Morris was born and raised in Arlington, Texas, and spent much of her time growing up at her parent’s hair salon. When she was 12 years old, Morris’s father gave her a guitar and she fell in love. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 2010, Morris moved to Nashville. However, Morris’s end goal in moving to Nashville wasn’t chasing fame or celebrity – she just wanted to hone her craft as a songwriter. She did just that, writing songs for Kelly Clarkson (“Second Wind”) and Tim McGraw (“Last Turn Home”).

Morris’s recording career began in 2005, when she released her debut studio album, Walk On, with Mozzi Blozzi Music. After that, she released two more albums, 2007’s All That It Takes and 2011’s Live Wire, before she released her major-label debut. That debut album was 2016’s critically acclaimed Hero, which featured singles such as “My Church,” “I Could Use a Love Song,” “80s Mercedes” and “Rich.” That same year, Morris won the Country Music Association (CMA) Award for New Artist of the Year.

In 2017, Morris’s debut single, “My Church,” won the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

Morris collaborated with Zedd and Gray on “The Middle,” which was released in January 2018. That single combined elements of dance, pop, country, and EDM and went on to become #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Morris’s second major-label album, titled GIRL, was released in March 2019. The first single from that album, “Girl,” hit #8 on the US Country chart and #1 on the US Country Airplay chart.

In 2018, Morris married fellow country singer Ryan Hurd, and in March of 2020, they welcomed their first child, a son.
