Chief Conservation Officer and Vice President, Conservation & Science, Monterey Bay Aquarium

Margaret Spring is vice president of conservation and science and chief conservation officer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She directs conservation and science efforts at the aquarium and oversees research programs involving various marine species as well as the aquarium’s respected Seafood Watch program. She served at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration from 2009 to 2013. Before NOAA, she directed the coastal and marine program for The Nature Conservancy’s California chapter. Spring was general counsel to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, where she advised Congress on key ocean legislation. She was appointed to the Ocean Studies Board of the National Research Council in 2014.
