Actress & Comedian; Known for Netflix's "Lady Dynamite" & "Arrested Development"

Maria Bamford is a stand-up comedian, actress, and voice actress. She is best known for her portrayal of her dysfunctional family and self-deprecating comedy involving jokes about depression and anxiety. Stephen Colbert called her his “favorite comedian on earth” and Judd Apatow said she is “the funniest woman in the world.”

Her first comedy album and tour was The Burning Bridges Tour, followed by her second album, How to WIN!, and her third, Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome.

Bamford is the first female comic to have two half-hour “Comedy Central Presents” specials. And now, two well-received specials on Netflix called The Special Special Special and Old Baby.

Awarded Best Club Comic at the American Comedy Awards and Breakout Comedy Star at the Montreal Comedy Festival, her critically acclaimed work includes her web series The Maria Bamford Show (featured at MOMA NY), Ask My Mom (recommended by The New Yorker), and her Netflix series Lady Dynamite (2 seasons).

She starred in her first feature film, Lucky Numbers, before lending her voice to characters on CatDog, American Dad!, Ugly Americans, Adventure Time, and BoJack Horseman.

Bamford's film work includes Stuart Little 2, Charlotte's Web 2: Wilbur's Great Adventure, Barnyard, Heckler, and her most recent film, Hell & Back. She transitioned into television by starring in Louie, Arrested Development, and WordGirl. In 2014, she won the American Comedy Award for Best Club Comic.

Her life story is the subject of the 2016 Netflix original series Lady Dynamite, in which she plays the lead role. Her work has drawn critical acclaim as well as controversy as her subjects span from lighter to darker topics such as suicide and psychiatric conditions.

For her mental health advocacy, she’s been presented with The OCD Foundation’s Illumination Award and featured at the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium, The Chautauqua Institution and the Saks Institute for Mental Health Law, Policy and Ethics Symposium.
