Lead Singer of the Indie Pop Band The Marías

María Zardoya is the lead vocalist of The Marías, an indie-pop band known for their dreamy fusion of psychedelic rock, jazz, and Latin influences. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Atlanta, GA, Zardoya moved to Los Angeles, where she met drummer and producer Josh Conway, leading to the formation of The Marías in 2016. Her sultry vocals, often sung in both English and Spanish, have become a signature element of the band's sound, resonating with fans around the world.

The Marías gained rapid acclaim with their debut EP Superclean Vol. I in 2017, followed the next year by Superclean Vol. II, which solidified their reputation for creating lush, cinematic music. In 2021, they released their debut album Cinema, a genre-defying project that further showcased Zardoya’s vocal versatility and the band’s eclectic style. The album received critical praise for its atmospheric production and bilingual lyrics as did their sophomore effort Submarine, released in 2024.

Zardoya, recognized by TIME magazine on their Latino Leaders 2024 list, has become a style icon, known for her vintage-inspired fashion and unique artistic vision. Through her work with The Marías, she has contributed to the rise of Latinx artists in indie music, blending cultural influences in a way that is both fresh and authentic.
