Mariah the Scientist

R&B Singer-Songwriter

Left-of-center R&B artist Mariah the Scientist offers highly personal narratives in a relatable fashion that recalls the approach of SZA and Frank Ocean, two of her primary inspirations. Since appearing on SoundCloud in 2018, the singer/songwriter has signed to RCA and issued the assured and free-flowing album Master (2019), followed by the equally self-confident Ry Ry World in 2021 and the EP Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission in 2022.

Mariah Buckles started singing privately and opted to make headway with music once she started writing material of her own. She graduated from her suburban Atlanta high school a year early and left for New York to attend college. A studio session in Queens yielded a couple songs received positively by friends, inspiring her to complete To Die For, uploaded to SoundCloud in January 2018. The six-track set caught the attention of Juno-winning, Grammy-nominated artist Tory Lanez, who got in touch to work with Buckles as a mentor and collaborator. Early the next year, Buckles signed to RCA, after which she completed her major-label debut as Mariah the Scientist with Lanez, Play Picasso, and WondaGurl among her production support. That August, she released Master, a concise ten-track effort featuring the singles "Beetlejuice" and "Reminders."

Two years later, Buckles issued her sophomore long-player, Ry Ry World, which featured guest spots from Young Thug and Lil Baby. In 2022, she released the four-song EP Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission and the single "Bout Mine."
