Marilyn Denis / Host

Marilyn Denis, one of the busiest, most fun-loving – and quite honestly, one of the nicest people in broadcasting – made her highly anticipated return to television early 2011, as host of her own daytime series, THE MARILYN DENIS SHOW.

The veteran broadcaster also co-hosts Roger, Darren & Marilyn weekday mornings on Toronto’s #1-ranked radio station 104.5 CHUM FM. A dominating presence in Toronto radio and television, Marilyn’s quick wit, connection with the audience and charm have made her a much-beloved figure in CHUM FM’s 25 year history and favourite among Toronto fans.

THE MARILYN DENIS SHOW airs live weekdays on CTV. The show brings Canadians quality programming with a mix of expert and celebrity guests. Marilyn places fans at the centre of it all, as she provides a unique blend of entertainment and topical lifestyle tips to viewers across the country, for one hour, five times a week, and on weekends with THE BEST OF THE MARILYN DENIS SHOW.

A definite trailblazer, Marilyn became the first female DJ at KRPL in Moscow, Idaho. She then moved to Calgary where she held various radio positions including programmer, music director, and traffic reporter. But it wasn’t until she auditioned to become Roger Ashby’s co-host, that Marilyn found her niche. After interviewing dozens of broadcasters and actresses, Marilyn breezed into CHUM FM in July 1986. After chatting with her for a few brief minutes, Roger immediately remarked, “I think we’ve found the right one.”

Marilyn has always balanced her dynamic radio career with her candid television presence. She first began her career in television by reporting on sports, weather, and entertainment at CFCN-TV (CTV Calgary) and working as a freelance reporter for TSN. Marilyn also shared hosting duties on Bravo!'s Gemini Award-winning concert series LIVE AT THE REHEARSAL HALL and was host of the popular daily show CITYLINE for nearly 20 years.

A triple Gemini Award-winner (including back-to-back Viewers Choice Awards), Marilyn received The Rosalie Award, honouring Canadian women who have paved the way for others in radio broadcasting in 2006.

Marilyn is committed to many charities. An advocate for the fight against ovarian and breast cancer, Marilyn also supports and encourages organ donation and was one of the first members of the SickKids Constellation, a premier group of stars who support the efforts of the SickKids Foundation.

MARILYN DENIS: THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME…

  1. Since 1986, my career has been a balance of two jobs simultaneously and I continue to co-host the CHUM-FM morning show with the two brothers I never had, Roger Ashby and Darren B. Lamb.

  2. I am the third of four daughters of Jim and Shirley Denis and therefore there are only two authenticated baby pictures of me!

  3. In July 2009, I lost my biggest fan and favourite viewer – my Mom.

  4. I am the proud mother of a 22-year-old son, Adam, who is also in broadcasting.

  5. In addition to my degree in Radio and Television Arts, I have a minor in Advertising. If I’d hung in a bit longer I might have received a minor in Anthropology and discovered that missing gene that helps women understand men.

  6. My favourite movie of all-time is Citizen Kane, but I can also quote every line from Bridget Jones’s Diary.

  7. My secret celebrity crush is Colin Firth. I guess it's not a secret anymore.

  8. I have a weakness for Skinny Cow® ice cream sandwiches (the word "Skinny" fools me every time!)

  9. My idea of the perfect meal is a big juicy cheeseburger, half a pint of beer and a Steelers football game.

  10. Born in Canada but raised in Pittsburgh, I fell hard for football. I think I am the Steelers' #1 fan.

  11. My friends call me the Queen of Ziploc® because I carry little airtight plastic bags with me everywhere I go. They are perfect for gift cards, spare change, shopping receipts and of course Adam’s Cheerios® when he was a little boy.

  12. I have an irrational anxiety about getting off a ski lift, yet my favourite place to be in the world is the Canadian Rockies.

  13. My biggest fear with the new show is one day I’ll wrap and realize, later, in the bathroom, that my microphone is still turned ON!
