Danny Manning

Head Basketball Coach of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Danny Manning is a college basketball legend and former NBA All-Star. As the son of longtime NBA player and coach Ed Manning, Danny Manning got his start playing basketball at a young age, helping his high school to a state title and a perfect 26-0 record. Manning then attended the University of Kansas, where he had one of the best collegiate careers in NCAA history. Practically rewriting both Kansas and NCAA record books, Manning was awarded three Big Eight Player of the Year Awards, the Wooden Award, the Naismith Award, and two All American honors. Manning led the Jayhawks to the 1988 NCAA championship, earning the game MVP that same year. In the 1988 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Clippers selected Manning with the first overall pick, playing with the team for six seasons and earning two All Star selections. After leaving the Clippers, Manning would become a journeyman, playing for six different teams before retiring in 2003. Once retired, Manning focused on coaching, returning to Kansas as an assistant for nine years before becoming the head coach of Tulsa University in 2012. Two years later, Manning was hired to serve as the coach at Wake Forest University. He led the Demon Deacons for six seasons.
