Mark Powers

Mark Powers, Technical Editor , This Old House Magazine

The son of two "serial renovators" Mark Powers was raised with a hammer in his hand working alongside his parents in one of the many homes they renovated as a family in the suburbs of Washington D.C.

Arriving in 2000 as the Technical Editor at This Old House magazine, Mark is responsible for managing the bulk of technical illustrations and instructions that appear throughout the magazine, and is the centerpiece of the popular monthly feature Homeowners Handbook.

After graduating in 1994 from Virginia Commonwealth University, Mark followed his passion for renovation from Richmond, where he had renovated a small home he had purchased, to Charleston, South Carolina where he worked in a mill building custom doors, cabinetry, railings, and furniture.

In 1998 Mark finally landed in New York where he worked as a carpenter and welder building Broadway sets. He has since renovated three apartments, which prepared him for his ultimate goal; purchasing and renovating a brownstone.

His knowledge and craftsmanship has been featured on Inside Edition, CNN, and in various newspapers nation wide.

Mark currently lives with his wife Angelina in a brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn with their daughter Sophia.
