Mark Steines

From small town Iowa to the red carpets of Hollywood.

From small town Iowa to the red carpets of Hollywood, Emmy-winning journalist Mark Steines has established himself as one of the most trusted and charismatic figures in entertainment news today with a combination of hard work, sincerity, and his signature everyman charm. Whether it is a one-on-one interview with tinsel town’s A-list or first-on-the-scene exclusive reporting, Steines has earned the respect and admiration of his peers, his subjects, and his viewing audience at large.

Steines is the long standing co-anchor of the hit syndicated entertainment news magazine show “Entertainment Tonight” . Steines has been at the forefront of industry news for over a decade, interviewing dozens of Hollywood’s biggest stars over the course of his career.

Although Steines was flattered to be named to People Magazine’s coveted “Sexiest Men of 2004” roster, as well as one of Men’s Fitness Magazine’s “25 Fittest Men in America,", he takes more pride in the journalistic honors and accolades that adorn his shelves. A four-time Emmy nominee and three-time winner, his first came for the KCAL special “Beyond Endurance: Madagascar,” for which he also won the Golden Mic Award; his second came for “Beyond Endurance: Borneo.” He was awarded with a National Iris Award for outstanding reporting and garnered national recognition by the Women’s Sports Foundation for his fair and impartial reporting on the Women’s National Football League.

Over the years, Steines has parlayed his industry experience and interview prowess into a number of other opportunities in front of the camera. He hosted the “2008 Miss America Live!” telecast on TLC from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. He also served as the host of AOL’s interactive online game “Gold Rush,” from creator and close personal friend Mark Burnett. In addition, Steines has hosted the famous telecast of the Hollywood Christmas parade and has lent his voice to a number of ongoing series of VH-1 specials such as “Greatest TV Rock ‘n’ Roll Moments” and “The 25 Sexiest.” He is also proud to have hosted the Golden Karma Awards, which recognizes the national and international philanthropic efforts of celebrities such as recent honorees Jessica Biel, Jane Seymore, and Johnny Grant.

As an actor, Steines has appeared on such television shows as “CSI: NY,” “Half & Half,” “America’s Next Top Model,” “The Practice,” and "Medium," as well as in Sony Pictures NIXON, among others. He has lent his voice to the hit Disney Channel cartoon “Handy Manny” opposite Wilmer Valderrama, and has performed on stage in an Alhambra Theater production of “Barefoot in the Park.” Steines has studied at The Groundlings, the renowned school of improv, earned a degree from the JoAnne Baron/DW Brown Acting Studio after two years of intensive Meisner Technique training, and fine-tuned his vocal training at the Kalmenson & Kalmenson Voice Over School for Actors.

Born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, Steines attended the University of Northern Iowa on a full football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Radio and Television. Given his athletic background, Steines quickly found work as a television sports reporter, a career that would lead him to the West coast and eventually to “ET.”

A man with many interests and hobbies, Steines is a hands-on do-it-yourselfer, always tackling a new project on the home front. He also enjoys  sports – especially cheering for his Oakland Raiders – and is a three-time participant in the Grand Prix of Long Beach, a celebrity road race through the streets of the harbor city.  His most recognized and celebrated hobby, however, is photography.  His appreciation for all things beautiful can be seen in his portraits and his captivating landscapes.  Mark is rarely seen without a camera by his side as he travels on assignments around the world to such places as Rome, Geneva, and even Sierra Leone.  You can find some of his favorite images in the Photo Gallery.

Not one to forget his roots, Steines has recently established a competitive mentorship program with his alma mater, welcoming students into his world and equipping them with the tools they need to successfully transition from the classroom to the workforce.  He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress and former Miss America 1993, Leanza Cornett, and their two children.
